Krögelstein is more than a picturesque village nestled between Dolomite rocks: high above the Kaiserbach once stood the castle of the Lords of Krögelstein. Their history dates back to the Middle Ages. In 1523, the rock castle was destroyed by the Swabian League. The large watchtower is said to have been blown up with four tons of gunpowder. Today, remnants of walls above the rocky gorge are a reminder of the vanished castle. The houses of the village nestle directly against the striking Dolomite rocks: the "Alten Fritz", the Schwedenfelsen, and the Löwenfelsen.

The Kainachtaler Block marks the transition from the Kainachtal to the Kaiserbachtal and is notable for its rugged surface. The approximately twelve-meter-high dolomite rock is particularly well-known among climbers. The many holes and overhangs give the rock its characteristic appearance and impressively show how the typical rock formations of the Franconian Switzerland were formed by weathering.

In the middle of Kainach stands this historic pump well – a testament to the former water supply in the countryside. Long before there was a central water supply, such wells were of great importance to people. Water was a precious commodity in the high plateau of the Franconian Switzerland and had to be laboriously obtained from wells and springs in many places. It is particularly beautiful at Easter, when it – like many wells in the Franconian Switzerland – is festively decorated.

The Kainachtal is a particularly beautiful and quiet natural area right on the outskirts of Hollfeld. The path leads from the old town down into the valley, where the landscape transforms into an idyllic stream and meadow landscape. The gentle splashing of the Kainach accompanies you on your way. The valley is particularly interesting for families, as the children's adventure trail with various stations for playing and discovering runs through here.

A small water playground in the Kainachtal valley, especially for families with children. Water can be pumped with the pump and you can splash to your heart's content in the stream. A bench invites you to take a break.
