In the period from 20,000 to 10,000 AD, northern Europe was covered with an ice sheet up to 3,000 m thick. The glaciers have repeatedly advanced far to the south. The masses of ice were constantly in motion, enclosing debris and boulders that got in their way and transporting them with them. Only where the ice began to thaw at the end of its journey did it spit out its stony cargo. The glaciers transported Scandinavian rock towards Uckermark like a conveyor belt. Anyone who knows how to read the tracks of the stones can still understand this Ice Age journey today. The boulder garden in Fürstenwerder helps the visitor to decipher the heritage of the glaciers. Here you are standing in front of a large block of granite which, according to analyzes by geologists, comes from near Stockholm. Reddish and gray granite, dark, fine-grained basalt, light-colored sandstone - a whole collection of such well-travelled stones adorn the boulder garden. - Created in 2001/2002 - Size of the entire garden approx. 1,000 sqm - 66 boulders were recovered in and around Fürstenwerder.
