A really beautiful old town with many great old half-timbered houses. Those who love half-timbered houses are in the right place here. The Fulda flows along the town.

This small but fine chapel was first mentioned in a document in 1303. It was built on the floor plan of a hall church. The small arched window with a picture of Saint George is well preserved. In the years 1967/68 the chapel was renovated from the ground up and today serves again as a church. Unfortunately, it is closed for public spontaneous visits. But on 01.4.2026, while photographing the building, I was simply lucky that a woman was working in the garden with the church key. She asked me if I would like to take a look inside the chapel. Of course, I couldn't resist. By the way, the chapel is located in Hospitalstraße. From the R1, the large hospital building is visible first, and slightly to the right behind it, the St. Georgs Kapelle can be discovered.

Perfect for a short walk. If you want to swim with your dog, head to the dog-friendly beach. There are also smaller, more private coves there. It's best to arrive on the Gombeth side.

Presumably built on the foundations of an older predecessor building, the St. George Chapel, built around 1300, is one of the oldest buildings in Melsungen, along with the Protestant town church.
