While we were here, a black stork silently took flight and flew away. It was a wonderful experience to see these beautiful animals up close!

"Altenau needs a bigger church!" With these words, the pastor at the time asked for donations in the middle of the 17th century. The number of people attending church services was so high that the small church could no longer accommodate everyone. And so today's St. Nikolai Church was built in 1670. The old altar cross from 1640 has been preserved from the old church to this day. After the new building, the church was very bare and so the pastor at the time, Bertram, donated the altar for the new church. Really pleasant for hiking - always along the ditch, so hardly any incline and always a good path. It's fun, apart from the fact that the entire network of moats here is absolutely impressive.
