Rossum Castle

Highlight • Castle

Rossum Castle is a castle in the northeast of the village of Rossum of the same name.
An exact construction date is not known, but it was probably built in the 13th century as a country residence for the Van Rossum family.
The original castle was completely destroyed in the 16th century during the siege of Zaltbommel in 1599. In 1740, the remains were demolished to make way for a (smaller) steward's castle. In 1850, the then owner, Baron Van Randwijck, demolished the steward's castle and built a country residence with coach house on this site. From 1949 to 2002, the building was owned by the municipality of Rossum and used as a town hall. Since then it has been used as an office.

Castle of Oijen

Highlight • Castle

Beautiful and picturesque. But what we now call Oijen Castle is 'only' the remains of a large and mighty castle.
What is now called Oijen Castle is actually the outer bailey of the former castle. The two low round corner towers date from the 16th century and are the oldest parts of the current complex. You can still clearly see where the now disappeared bridge once ended, exactly between the two towers.
The old castle has not completely disappeared yet. The foundations are still in the ground. The floor plan of the castle has been mapped using modern ground-penetrating radar equipment, without even having to dig a shovel.

The castle is located on an island near the Dommel River and dates from around 1400, but is no longer in its original state. It was likely renovated between 1504 and 1509 by Jan Heyns, one of the architects of St. John's Cathedral in 's-Hertogenbosch.

Partners Klaas van Leengoed and Niek van Lieverloo joined forces in 2015 to breathe new life into Kasteel Maurick. Klaas had always seen the charm and possibilities that Kasteel Maurick has to offer. And Niek had been dreaming of his own restaurant for years. During their meeting, it became clear that they shared their admiration for this special location. In the autumn, they reopened the castle doors. From the á la carte restaurant “Hendrik van Maurick”, brasserie Catharina for a delicious lunch or cozy high tea to spaces for a beautiful party, a romantic wedding or a business meeting. At Kasteel Maurick, together with the entire team, we provide you with an unforgettable stay. Our core values? Quality, stylish, craftsmanship and passion: we radiate this in everything we do.

In a meander of the Maas near the Gelderland village of Well (municipality of Maasdriel) is the Slot van Well, also known as the House of Malsen. The oldest part of this castle, which is currently privately owned and therefore inaccessible to the public, probably dates from the fourteenth century.
