The nursery school from 1880 was open until 1905. The children at this nursery school came mainly from farms. The reason this nursery school had to close was because there were not many children left and the teacher was getting married and therefore could not return to this school. There were 25 children at the school, including Jan de Waard, who is family of Welmoed de Boer. The teacher lived in a small house, which was behind the school. There used to be a church behind the nursery school, but it has been demolished. This school was not a public school. The cupboards where the textbooks were kept are still in the same place where they were then. There was playing, singing songs, cutting and pasting, etc. all the time. Only in 1965 was a new nursery school/kindergarten built.

Bozum originated on a wide terp, which connected to a watercourse on the Middelzee. Despite its width, the village later developed outside the terp. In 1260 the place was mentioned as Bosingum, in 1395 as Bozinghim, in 1400 as Bosinchum, in 1427 as Bosum, in 1482 as Bozigum, and in 1505 as Boeszum. The name is thought to indicate a dwelling place (heem/um) of the Bozinga family. Another explanation for the 'bozing' part could be a cow shed, from the Old Frisian word bôs (cow shed), but this is not considered very likely.

American wind engine on the polder dike near the Grietmansrak on the Kromme Ee dominates the landscape, just like in the past. The American-style windmill of the "Hercules Metallicus" type from Germany was installed in 1926 next to the hotel-restaurant Ie Sicht on the Headammen.

There was already a church here in the Middle Ages, but it was replaced by this church in about 1500. The church was dedicated to Mary, hence the name, and is now a national monument.

Git a great hot chocolate here from the kind owner. I was dripping wet from a heavy shower so she not unreasonably asked me to stay on the porch. She kindly allowed me to wait out a second band of rain and even to bring my bike under the porch. Recommend if you are between Sneek and Leeuwarden and in need of refreshment. The single room of the cafe is extraordinarily cosy and elegant at the same time.
