This route is often almost dry even after heavy or regular rainfall, is fairly flat, but has nice single tracks. I often use it as a kind of easy extra.

The air watchtower was built in 1953 by order of the Ministry of Defence. It was part of a network of 276 lookout posts constructed across the country between 1951 and 1956 to spot enemy aircraft flying lower than radar could detect. The tower remained in use until 1964, when the regional air watch service was disbanded. After that, the tower was transferred to the Civil Defence (BB). The tower in Echten is now one of only 19 remaining air watchtowers. Source: https://www.tracesofwar.nl/sights/140607/Luchtwachttoren-7X3.htm

Long stretch of narrow single track that leads you through the forest with nice bends.

The viewpoint is built on the noise barrier in the shape of a sheep's head, the head of a Drenthe heath sheep. The sheep's head is the logo of the national park. I climb a staircase to the highest point and look out over the A28 through the eye's hole. When I turn around, I see the Holtveen. It's a large fen along the A28, behind the noise barrier.

This is one of my favourite loops; 21 km long (you only see a part of it here) and despite the few differences in altitude, there are still some nice sections of single track.
