Reminiscent of a Hundertwasser house: Thom Wilcke is the founder of "Mönchgut Keramik." He sells—of course—ceramic tableware, striking stone fish figurines, and glass installations, which can also be found throughout the village. His wife, Tabea, designs porcelain jewelry. The home of the family of nine is a real eye-catcher in the village.

If you're traveling in the southeast of the island of Rügen, the "Gasthof zur Linde" is a great place to stop for a bite to eat. It has a rustic ambiance inside and a lovely terrace outside (we're usually not bothered by the traffic from the main road). Always friendly service and a decent menu.

The nature reserve, with its hilly landscape, offers magnificent views over the Greifswalder Bodden, the Mönchgut region, and the Baltic Sea. The predominantly nutrient-poor grassland provides space for numerous protected and rare plant species. I'd never heard of "downy meadow oat" before, but the sea thrift is also among them. Those seeking tranquility in nature will find it here. And those looking to move their full stomachs after a generous slice of cake at the "Moccavino" will also find it here.
