You cycle through Vitte, past squat thatched roofs, chattering seagulls, and the scent of salt and sunscreen, and suddenly there it is: the Hiddensee Tent Cinema. No magnificent facade, no red carpet – but a green, curved structure like something out of a Robinson Crusoe, half warehouse, half airship that has just landed to show stories before taking off again. In front of the entrance, posters flutter in the sea breeze, a wooden path leads through sand and dune grass to the cinema entrance. To the right, a bicycle leans, to the left, a person with a bag of popcorn and bare feet. The menu is still handwritten – with prices that sound like they're from another decade. Beer, wine, cocktails. And nachos with cheese. Those who come in here aren't looking for a Dolby spectacle, but rather the grand shimmer of the small island. Inside, it smells of warm rubber, sea air, and adventure. The screen is ready, the lights dimmed, and somewhere a projector hums quietly. And outside: the gentle rolling of the Baltic Sea, the cries of seagulls in the semidarkness, and the thought that cinema has rarely been as close to the world as it is here – in Vitte's tent, where stories still float through the wind. A place you don't just visit, but one you remember. Like a favorite line from an old movie.

The Protestant Church of St. John in Schaprode is one of the oldest churches on the island of Rügen. The brick building can be visited ("Tritt ein" - open churches) and is surrounded by a churchyard with green lawns. Events are regularly held here, mostly concerts, but sometimes a film screening. Pastor Holz opens the church for me again when I arrive, and he was already about to leave for the day. Very nice!

Update from 28.02.2026: The farm shop is back from the 2025/2026 winter break and has moved next door. There is now much more space here, also for sitting. Larger selection incl. warm dishes and many tourist souvenirs, spirits, local and merchandising products from the "Schillings-Welt". The restaurant "Schillings Gasthof" is right next door. Price level for people in a good holiday mood.

Small, manageable harbor town with two good restaurants, the church of St. Johannes, a sandy beach on the Bodden and a campsite.
