Odeceixe Windmill and Village

Highlight • Settlement

Odeceixe is a small town known for its narrow, winding streets dotted with whitewashed houses and red tiled roofs. The moinho de Odeceixe which stands at the top of the village is one of the icons of its architecture.

At the foot of Odeceixe flows the Seixe around which crops abound. Far from the arid cultures of the heart of the land, this green setting looks like a little piece of paradise.

View of Praia de Odeceixe and Seixe River Mouth

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

The whole fisherman’s trail of the Rota Vicentina is astonishing beautiful. Walking mostly along the dunes and cliffs overseeing the sea on the one and beautiful flowers on the other hand. The route has a perfectly organized webpage and good description. Walking on sand makes the distances of 15-23 km seem longer than they are but it is worth every step. We went in mid-May when it was comfortably warm and the flowers were in blossom all around us. My favourite trail in the world

Foia Summit

Highlight • Summit

At the top of the Monchique mountain range rises Foia, the highest point in the Algarve, at 902 meters altitude. Its antennas mark the summit where the sky seems closest and, on clear days, the view reaches the Atlantic. Up here, the wind blows freely and the view is simply unforgettable.

Zambujeira do Mar

Highlight • Settlement

Zambujeira do Mar rises atop dramatic cliffs, with the Atlantic always on the horizon and hidden beaches below. Small and authentic, the village gains extra energy in the summer, especially in August during the Festival do Sudoeste.

At the top, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Mar offers one of the best viewpoints on the coast, perfect for a break with a view. Between descents to the sea and trails along the cliffs, this is one of those places where every kilometer tastes like freedom.
