Located within the Planalto Superior biogenetic reserve, the Rossim Valley is a unique location of great scientific, environmental, and scenic value that deserves to be protected and enhanced. Although it is an artificial lake, over time, conditions have been created that have transformed this area into an excellent leisure and recreation area that attracts countless tourists. The Vale do Rossim recreation center is located at an average altitude of 1,437 meters. Before the dam was built, it was one of the best high-altitude pastures in the municipality of Gouveia. The area has almost always been frequented by transhumance herds, flocks that gathered here from São João to the Sr. do Calvário festivities in August.

Sabugueiro, the village vying for the title of highest in Portugal, is also one of the most authentic ambassadors of mountain life. Among granite houses and comforting flavors (cheese, sausages, roast kid, and honey), you can find the warmth of blankets and burel coats and the company of the faithful Serra da Estrela mountain dogs. Surrounding waterfalls, streams, and lakes remind you that here, nature is as generous as the table.

Valhelhas was born among verdant hills, sheltered in the sunny Zêzere valley. Today, it's synonymous with perfect summer: one of the largest river beaches in Beira Interior, with crystal-clear waters, generous shade, and all the support for leisurely days. But the village of this "small valley," a translation of Vallicula, its Roman name, holds more than just freshness: from the 16th-century pillory to the Philippine Bridge, passing through chapels, a church, and the ruins of the old castle, every corner tells a piece of history. And, of course, there are flavors worth the trip in any season: goat, Guarda sausages, Zêzere trout, requeijão (curd cheese), and the unmistakable Serra da Estrela cheese.

At over 1,400 meters above sea level, the Rossim Valley Reservoir is a haven of granite, pine trees, and crystal-clear waters in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Mountains. It's the perfect setting for strolls, summer swims, and admiring nature in all its splendor, one of Portugal's highest jewels.

From Portela de Folgosinho, breathtaking horizons emerge, shaped by granite rocks as surreal as the famous Pharaoh's Head, very close by, whose name derives from its apparent shape. Nearby, the swing of the same name invites you to float above the landscape.

The Mondego, the largest river with a wholly Portuguese soul, offers a crossing here: a dam that serves as a natural bridge. Tread carefully, but don't forget to look up, because the view from the heart of the river is unique. The crossing is usually easy in any season, but if the rains are heavy, it's best to turn around and let the current take its course.

Belmonte, one of the twelve Historic Villages of Portugal, is the home of Pedro Álvares Cabral and guardian of the country's largest Jewish community, a legacy that endured centuries of Inquisition. Between walls and memories, mystique and history abound, with the Serra da Estrela on one side and the Malcata Reserve on the other. The food completes the enchantment: Jewish flavors like fried offal coexist with broths, migas, esparregados, and traditional Beira sweets: rice pudding, papas de carolo, and filhós.
