On the southern shore lies Schorssow Castle (manor house) with its English landscape park, which reaches down to the shore. The neoclassical three-winged building received its current form at the beginning of the 19th century (rebuilt by the von Moltke family). Previous owners included the Maltzans (14th–16th century) and later the Tiele-Wincklers. After the Second World War, it served as a crèche, school, and municipal office, among other things, fell into disrepair, and was extensively reconstructed starting in 1995. Since March 1997, it has been open as a castle hotel with a spa, restaurant, and lakeside terrace.

Schorssow itself was first mentioned in documents in 1372 as a fief of the Moltzan (Maltzahn) family. There was a late Romanesque patronal church (the present-day "Wüste Kirche" or "Deserted Church"), which was built in the mid-14th century under Heinrich von Moltzan and destroyed around 1540 in connection with the introduction of the Reformation (or a dispute over inheritance). Remains of the rampart and the church ruins have been preserved; the ruins were renovated in 2001/2002.

Schorssow was first mentioned in documents in 1372 and was at that time a fief of the von Maltzan (also Moltzan) family. Over the centuries, the owner families changed several times: after the Maltzahns (1400–1545) followed the families of von Moltke (until 1816), von Hahn (from 1820), and at the end of the 19th century, the Tiele-Winckler family.

The Malchiner See is not a noisy bathing paradise, but a retreat. Its shores are lined with dense reed belts that offer protection to many animals. With a little luck and patience, you can observe beavers, otters, or even white-tailed eagles and ospreys. In winter, large flocks of ducks and other water birds gather here.

Schorssow, idyllically situated on the southwestern shore of Lake Malchin and directly on the smaller Haussee in Mecklenburg Switzerland, looks back on a varied and centuries-old estate history. The village was shaped above all by important Mecklenburg noble families, feuds, and its striking manor house.

Wonderful view from the 96 m high Röthelberg over the hills of Mecklenburg Switzerland, and beautiful benches for a rest.

Mecklenburg Switzerland is part of the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow Nature Park. The nature park is known for the diversity and beauty of its landscapes and its rich natural resources. In the north, you will find Lake Kummerow and its surroundings, as well as the Peene Valley as far as Demmin. The heart of the nature park is the actual Mecklenburg Switzerland. Here, you will find hill ranges more than 100 meters high – so-called push moraines – and lowlands that were also formed during the Ice Age. The two large lakes lie in these lowlands, just above sea level. The differences in elevation and the open landscape provide repeated opportunities to enjoy beautiful views. The agricultural areas are highly structured by wooded fields, kettle holes, hedges, and centuries-old individual trees. On the slopes, you will discover semi-arid grasslands. The Peene River and its tributaries, peat bogs, valley bogs, streams, and ponds form a dense network of wetlands that, despite land reclamation, remain of great importance for flora and fauna. Here, you can observe, for example, otters and beavers. Lake Kummerow, Lake Malchin, and Lake Teterow and their surroundings are particularly important for migratory and resting waterfowl, as well as many breeding birds, including white-tailed eagles, lesser spotted eagles, and ospreys.

Good spot to observe the water world of the lake. The path from the bike path to the tower can be very muddy
