The houses were built on a slag heap and the rectangular quarters would be strictly regulated with allotted plots and uniform cottages, often with only a living room and kitchen or just a kitchen/dining room. At the beginning of the 20th century it was not so easy to live in Elsborg. Large families lived close together. Many lived in poor living conditions, but all helped one another as best they could. In the summer of 1761, some town fires devastated large parts of downtown Falun, but Elsborg was spared. So a lot has stayed the same.
