The Bolmia cable ferry operates between the island of Bolmsö in Lake Bolmen and Sunnaryd. It is the longest cable ferry in Sweden and connects the island of Bolmsö in Kronobergs län with Sunnaryd in Jönköpings län over a distance of about 1km. The crossing over Lake Bolmen takes ten minutes, takes place directly on site after a small telephone request and is free of charge. The ferry connection to the island, called Bolmsöleden, has existed since 1872. Until 1927 it was operated with rowing boats, after which the first motor-driven ferry was used. A larger motor ferry running from 1950 was replaced in 1969 by the Bolmia, which was put into operation by the Vägverket road authority in Stockholm as Färja 62/285. The assembly of the ship took place after prefabrication of the parts directly on site. In 1992 the ferry was taken over by Färjerederiet Vägverket (later Trafikverket Färjerederiet) and was named Bolmia in the process.
