The very modern and attractively designed Catholic church in Emmelshausen is dedicated to Saint Hildegard of Bingen. Even during her lifetime (around 1098 to 1179) this extraordinary woman was famous far beyond her place of work in Bingen (the monastery no longer exists today) and later when she founded Rüdesheim. She is a teacher of the Church and is one of the patron saints of Europe. Saint Hildegard's memorial day in the calendar of saints is September 17th.
