Created in 1967 on the initiative of the National Committee for the Remembrance of Verdun and its chairman Maurice Genevoix, the museum is a place of remembrance for veterans of the First World War. From late 2013 to early 2016, the Memorial will be closed for renovation and expansion work. DE21 February 2016, it reopens on the occasion of the centenary of the beginning of the Battle of Verdun.
