The Château Solar is an unusual building of medieval origin. It has the unique characteristic in the region of featuring neo-Moorish style architecture and today serves as the Town Hall (Mairie) for the commune. A first fortified castle (castrum) belonged to the Castelmoron family from 1259. Dominating the Lot, it was dismantled in 1345 during the Hundred Years' War. In 1840, the estate was bought by Félix Solar (Aaron Euryale Solar), a wealthy journalist, businessman, and great collector from the village. In the 1850s, he decided to completely rebuild the residence in the Orientalist and neo-Moorish taste of the time. Its architecture was inspired by the splendors of the Alhambra in Granada and the mosque of Cordoba, embellished with wooden galleries, moucharabiehs, and balconies. In 1902, the municipality acquired the building to house the town hall services.

3 km south of the village of Grateloup, on a site overlooking the Garonne to the west and the Lot to the south, all that remains of the church of Saint-Gayrand are open-air ruins. Listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments, they testify to what was an impressive stone vessel, originally Romanesque (12th century) then Gothic (15th and 16th centuries). To see, the square bell tower with its stair tower which reveals the fortification of the church of Saint-Gayrand and if you have an observant eye, several sculptures of the Gothic portal which have survived the centuries, including a beautiful salamander, a Virgin with the Child and a Christ holding a globe.

This pretty town on the edge of the Lot has many curiosities, starting with its town hall which has a unique neo-Moorish architecture. The building is called Château Solar after the name of the family who transformed it. This impressive structure draws inspiration from both the Alhambra in Granada and the Mosque in Cordoba. A very beautiful fountain with spring water jets built in 1859 is also visible on the Place des Halles. This village is at the forefront of innovation since in 1999, the town built the first river port on the Lot. Castelmoron means "the castle of the Moors". This name refers of course to the castle Solar. The city has a beautiful beach close to the main bridge.
