The gatehouse was originally designed in 1770 by the court architect Georg Greggenhofer for the Deutsch-Nienhof estate on the Westensee. But it wasn't until 200 years later that the plans were realized in the museum. Until it was renovated in 2015 (dormers in the roof), it served as an entrance portal.
