After leaving these ruins, you walk the same street until you reach the car park, to visit Ardfert Abbey (200 m from the free car park). Planted in the middle of the fields, this Franciscan abbey, founded in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 15th century, retains a magnificent cloister full of charm and serenity, whose high windows are reminiscent of those of the nearby cathedral. Note the roof, a clever stone device designed to drain rainwater.
