After new drillings were carried out to provide better water, the Dessau city architect and architect Paul Engel began building a second water tower in 1896, the New Water Tower on Lutherplatz, which was completed in 1897. The water tower, built in the eclectic style, is still a widely visible landmark of the city today and is located in the southwestern extension of the city.[2] In 1919, a pilot overlooked the weather vane, hit it with his biplane and crashed into Friesenstraße.[1]
