From a distance, it could be mistaken for a typical crossroads in the form of a Celtic cross, much like sacred wayside shrines are often found in other places. However, upon closer inspection, the true meaning of this memorial is revealed to the viewer: to remember the many victims claimed by war and tyranny in so many places. Thus, they remain a significant symbol even today – despite the considerable passage of time from then to the present, these memorials / warning monuments lose none of their relevance.
