Pagan tower churches are a real rarity in Germany and four of these oriental-looking church towers are located in Rheinhessen. One explanation could be that the pagan towers were commissioned by the returnees of the First Crusade (1096-1099) as a sign of victory and a memorial. This is considered the most beautiful tower and is dated between 1200 and 1250. Source: rheinhessen.de
