"30 people from Albbruck died in the hail of bombs," says Knecht. "The Allies wanted to destroy the bridge over the Rhine, but they failed. A bomb landed in the middle of the bridge. But that was a dud, luckily. A bomb exploded in the forest between Schwaderloch and Mettau. The site can still be seen today and is marked with a plaque.
