    Hiking

The summit of South Bubble is situated in the park's largest valley. Hikers can see south along the length of Jordan Pond, north to Eagle Lake, and up to three of the park's four tallest peaks (Cadillac, Sargent, and Pemetic). Bubble Rock is accessible via a short trail from the summit. The trail to the north is relatively gradual and family friendly, while the southern trail to Jordan Pond is extremely steep and involves some technical rock scrambling.

The view compensates for the incredible view of the Jordan's Pond. The ascent has more to do with climbing than with hiking. Surefootedness and good shoes as well as a head for heights are an absolute must.

This moderate 4.1-mile (6.7 km) hiking loop offers a fantastic blend of Acadia's diverse landscapes, from tranquil waters to rugged peaks. You'll start with a peaceful walk along the Jordan Pond Path, enjoying views of the iconic North and South Bubbles reflected in the clear water. The trail transitions from smooth gravel to rocky sections and boardwalks, leading to a steep, rewarding climb up the South Bubble Trail. Expect to spend around 2 hours and 3 minutes on this route, which includes 633 feet (193 metres) of elevation gain.

To ensure a smooth experience, plan to arrive early, especially during peak season, as parking near the Jordan Pond House can fill up quickly. The Jordan Pond Path is generally family-friendly, but the ascent to South Bubble involves steep, uneven granite and some minor scrambling, requiring appropriate footwear and a bit more effort. Consider combining your hike with a visit to the Jordan Pond House for its famous popovers.

The highlight of this trail is undoubtedly the panoramic view from the summit of South Bubble, offering exceptional top-down perspectives of Jordan Pond and the Cranberry Isles. You'll also encounter Bubble Rock, a fascinating glacial erratic perched dramatically on the mountain's edge. The unique geology of the

The Jordan Pond Six-Peak Loop is a demanding 11.3-mile (18.2 km) hike that takes you across six distinct mountain summits in Acadia National Park, offering a comprehensive multi-peak experience. You'll encounter varied terrain, from forest paths to steep granite sections and challenging rockslides, all while enjoying panoramic views of Jordan Pond, Eagle Lake, and the distant Cranberry Isles. This difficult route, with its 3546 feet (1081 metres) of elevation gain, is a true test of endurance and skill. It's a journey through Acadia's rugged beauty, far removed from the park's gentler trails. If you're seeking a serious challenge and incredible vistas, this loop delivers. Expect to spend around 7 hours and 11 minutes on the trail. Long pants and hiking poles are recommended for the varied terrain, which includes sections requiring careful navigation over boulders and potential slides. This is not a hike for those with back or knee problems. The trail is best enjoyed during the warmer months when conditions are dry. Starting early is crucial to allow ample time to complete the full circuit before dark. The Jordan Pond Six-Peak Loop is a notable achievement for advanced hikers, providing a unique opportunity to bag six peaks in one ambitious outing. While none of the peaks are individually as high as Mount Everest, completing the circuit is considered an extraordinary accomplishment. This demanding loop provides a comprehensive multi-peak experience for advanced endurance athletes and serious peak baggers. The trail often begins and ends near the Jordan Pond House, a popular spot known for its tea and popovers, offering a chance to refuel after your adventure.

Embark on the South Bubble Mountain and Jordan Pond Loop, a moderate hike that offers a blend of serene lakeside paths and invigorating mountain ascents. This 1.4-mile (2.2 km) route, with an elevation gain of 394 feet (120 metres), can typically be completed in about 50 minutes. As you hike, you will enjoy continuous, picturesque views of Jordan Pond, reflecting the distinctive North and South Bubble mountains, before reaching the summit for expansive vistas.

When planning your visit, be aware that parking can be challenging during peak season; consider arriving early or utilizing the Island Explorer shuttle service. The trailhead is conveniently located near the Jordan Pond House, a well-known spot for tea and popovers, perfect for a pre or post-hike treat. Remember that swimming is not permitted in Jordan Pond, as it serves as a public drinking water supply.

This trail is notable for its diverse scenery within Acadia National Park, transitioning from gentle strolls along the pond's edge to a more demanding climb up South Bubble Mountain. A highlight of the ascent is Bubble Rock, a large boulder that appears precariously balanced on the mountain's edge, offering a unique photo opportunity and a memorable landmark on your journey.
