Running

Despite its name, the 'Blue Lake' in the Schwerte Forest just north of the Freischuetz restaurant is mostly green from algae and reflections of beech trees densely surrounding this remnant of a rock quarry that was in use for 30 years until 1873. The abandoned excavation has since filled with water and sediment. The rocks were mostly used in stabilizing the many small-scale coal mines that were dug here by early miners.

Is a quiet place, which is always used by me for a stopover. After the passage, take a deep breath, have a drink and look forward to the subsequent descent.

Hiking

All this dark soil denotes the presence of coal that was exploited for many years in that area. Today there are only the remains of the past ceded to us and our children to enjoy it to the extent that we can.
