    Hiking

The unmissable Torre Porto Giunco landmark forms the southern end of the Porto Giunco beach on a maccia-covered hill. A hike to the old tower on the hill is very worthwhile because of the beautiful view.

Spaggia e torre di Porto Giunco — Round trip

    40m

Embark on an easy hike around Spiaggia e Torre di Porto Giunco, a 2.8 miles (4.4 km) round trip that takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete. You will gain 144 feet (44 metres) in elevation as you traverse varied terrain, including sandy paths and sections with shrubs and boulders. The route leads you up a maccia-covered hill to the 17th-century Aragonese Tower, which stands 50 meters above sea level. From the tower, you can enjoy expansive views of the turquoise waters and fine white sand of Porto Giunco beach. You will also see the nearby Stagno di Notteri, a pond known for hosting pink flamingos, and the distant mountains.

This easy hike is suitable for all skill levels, including beginners, and is located near Villasimius in Sardinia. While the paths are generally well-trodden, some parts can be slippery due to sand, so wearing suitable shoes is recommended. For a more pleasant experience without the summer crowds, consider visiting during the off-season, such as autumn or spring. This allows you to fully appreciate the coastal views and natural beauty.

The Aragonese Tower of Porto Giunco is the most notable feature of this trail, originally built as a defensive structure against pirate attacks. It offers one of Sardinia's most magical viewpoints, especially for observing sunsets. The opportunity to spot pink flamingos in the Stagno di Notteri lagoon adds a unique appeal to the area. This trail is a popular choice for those looking to combine hiking with enjoying the pristine coastal environment.
