Very interesting church. The trees in the churchyard invite you to linger in the shade.

On the site where Werther Castle stood in the Middle Ages (1336: first mention of the castle chapel), the present Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul was built by HIilger Hertel the Elder (1831-1890). It was consecrated in 1886. What is unusual is that the church was built on the foundations of the former main building of the castle and was therefore oriented north-south rather than east-west. This is very rare for church buildings.
