The old butter market (1770) centralized the thriving trade in salted butter that was produced inland and then exported to Europe and even to India. This trade made the city rich in the 19th century. Renovated, the building houses an interesting small museum that follows the history of this industry in Cork. Next door, the rotunda of The Firkin Crane (1855) is also connected to the trade and production of butter, the name of which comes from an old unit of measure. The beautiful building is now dedicated to dance (classes, company in residence, performances).
