    EuroVelo 8: Leucate to Narbonne

    67.9km

    160m

    160m

The EuroVelo 8 from Leucate to Narbonne immerses you in a cycling journey full of contrasts, from the idyllic vineyards and olive groves of the Leucate plateau to the tranquil waters of the Canal de la Robine. Prepare for a 42.2-mile (67.9 km) route with 523 feet (159 meters) of elevation gain, which will take you approximately 5 hours and 5 minutes. It's a challenging experience that rewards you with coastal panoramas, the hustle and bustle of Port-la-Nouvelle, and the serenity of the towpaths.

This route is ideal for experienced cyclists with robust bikes, as the terrain varies significantly. You'll encounter a steep descent from Leucate and stony or grassy sections along the railway line and the Canal de la Robine. If your bike isn't suitable for uneven surfaces, you might consider a short train ride to avoid the roughest section near Port-la-Nouvelle. Be sure to bring a good navigation system, as signage can be inconsistent.

Part of the famous Mediterranean Route, this section of the EuroVelo 8 takes you along the historic Canal de la Robine, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Upon arriving in Narbonne, a city awaits you with a rich Roman history, an impressive cathedral, and a lively covered market. It's an excellent way to combine active cycling with cultural exploration in the heart of Occitania.
