The cathedral of Santo Stefano is the main place of Catholic worship in San Stino di Livenza. It is known that in the Middle Ages in San Stino there was a small church dependent on the parish of Lorenzaga. Over the centuries this small church was enlarged to reach thirty meters in length and nine in width, as attested in a document of 1846. In the second half of the nineteenth century the church was demolished to make way for the current cathedral, built in style neoclassical between 1864 and 1865.
