Pretty, colorful wooden houses, heated (!) sidewalks, a pedestrian zone where reindeer races take place, all of this can be experienced in Tromsø. Road or carriageway heating is a technology used to keep entire roads or special road sections, such as steep gradients or bridges, permanently ice-free in winter. Street heaters are powered by electricity or water heated by geothermal energy. The second variant also allows the street to be cooled in summer, whereby the thermal energy can be stored or used for other purposes.
