    Running

Designed as an exciting pleasure walk in the 18th century by the Dukes of Atholl this stretch of river walk with follies, waterfalls, caves and paths is a landscaped wilderness. It's an interesting run, on good trails but with great views and lots of interesting places to stop for a break.
It's now managed by the National Trust for Scotland.

    160m

Embark on a moderate jogging loop from Dunkeld, tracing the scenic banks of the River Tay and River Braan. This 6.7-mile (10.8 km) route, with 531 feet (162 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete. You will experience diverse terrain, from well-surfaced paths and forest tracks to minor roads and cycle paths, passing through enchanting woodlands and past the dramatic Rumbling Bridge waterfall.

Prepare for varied surfaces including paved, gravel, and natural segments; some parts may be rocky or muddy after rain. The trail requires a good level of fitness due to its moderate difficulty and includes gentle uphill and downhill gradients, especially when climbing through Atholl Woods. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear for the changing conditions.

This route offers a rich blend of natural beauty and history, taking you through The Hermitage, an 18th-century designed landscape with impressive waterfalls and towering trees. You will also pass the ancient Birnam Oak, famously linked to Shakespeare's Macbeth, and enjoy views of Dunkeld Cathedral. The area is part of the River Tay & Dunkeld National Scenic Area, known for its abundant wildlife like red squirrels and otters.
