Lord Howick, also known as Charles Grey, oversaw the construction of the bathing house near Howick Haven. As the owner of Howick Hall and its surrounding estate, Lord Howick took on the task of creating a private facility for seaside bathing. The purpose of the bathing house was to provide Lord Howick and his guests with a convenient and exclusive space for engaging in fashionable sea bathing, which was popular during the Victorian era for both health and leisure purposes.
