During the development of the “New Garden City” building area, a huge boulder was discovered that ice age glaciers had deposited there around 16,000 years ago. Its enormous dimensions of around 4.5 m by 3.6 m by 1.8 m contributed to it being described as the largest granite boulder known to date in the city area. The grey granodiorite (circumference around 12 m, weight 38 t) is a protected geological relic as a geotope.

Hiking

This boulder is the largest boulder ever found in the Schwerin urban area.

The rock is a gray granodiorite, weighs about 38 tons and has a circumference of about 12 meters. The rock is designated as a geotope and is therefore subject to special protection.

The rock garden to which this boulder belongs can be visited at any time. It is located opposite the historic grinding mill.

Across from the grinding mill, there are a few smaller specimens next to the large boulder, all of which have an information board. This is how they form this interesting and instructive boulder garden.
