    Hiking

Chadlington is a picturesque Oxfordshire village in the eastern Cotswolds AONB. It is in a region once occupied by the Wychwood Royal Forest, which is now mostly rolling farmland.

There are plenty of lovely country walking routes from the village, exploring the neighbouring villages and the pretty Evenlode Valley.

Embark on a moderate 3.7-mile (6.0 km) hike through the classic Cotswolds landscape, gaining 140 feet (43 metres) of elevation over approximately 1 hour and 33 minutes. This loop offers a diverse experience, winding through rolling hills and valleys characteristic of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You'll traverse a mix of woodlands, including sections of the historic Wychwood Forest, and open meadows, with the River Evenlode adding a refreshing touch to the scenery. Keep an eye out for the traditional dry stone walls that crisscross the countryside, framing expansive views. The path combines unpaved mountain hiking paths with paved sections and quiet roads, requiring good fitness and sure-footedness due to varied terrain.

While the trail is generally accessible, some sections may be uneven or involve ascents and descents, so wear appropriate footwear. After your hike, consider a stop at The Tite Inn in Chadlington. This historic 17th-century stone pub offers a convenient and welcoming spot for refreshments. Plan your visit to allow ample time to enjoy the quaint villages and natural beauty without rushing.

This route is notable for incorporating sections of the long-distance Wychwood Way and Oxfordshire Way trails, offering a glimpse into the region's historical pathways. As you hike, you'll experience the charm of Chadlington, known for its picturesque stone cottages and narrow, winding lanes, as well as the attractive hamlet of Dean. It provides a quintessential Cotswolds experience with its blend of natural beauty and historic village charm.
