From 1639 the glassmaker Michael Wentzel ran a glassworks in Breitenborn. The hut was going well, so that young glassmakers moved in and settled there with families. Glass production peaked between 1680 and 1720 with up to a million drinking glasses annually.

After the Seven Years' War (1763), glass factories were also set up in other regions; the decline of the Breitenborn glassworks could no longer be stopped. In 1771 the glassworks had to close. Many residents from the place emigrated to Pomerania and the south of Russia.

In the small park, the miniatures with the small watercourse and the replicas as a reminder of the glass trade and basalt mining are the eye-catchers. The town of Breitenborn A. W. owes its origins to glass production. A. W. stands as an abbreviation for Amt Wächtersbach in contrast to Breitenborn A. B., a district of the municipality of Biebergemünd (A. B. stands for Amt Bieber).
