Originally there was a sawmill at this point, which was built at the beginning of the 14th century. Together with the grain water mill, it belonged to the supply facilities of the nearby Trittau Castle. There is no documentary evidence of when the sawmill was closed. In 1695 an inn, the Burgkrug, was built here. The location was well chosen because it was on the busy trade and military route from Hamburg to Mecklenburg. The Burgkrug was in operation until the 1970s. It is one of the oldest buildings in Trittau and is a listed building.
