The bridge monument was erected in 1999 by the painter and sculptor Rolf Hackauf from Göldenitz and around 100 children and adults. Unburned bricks are creatively designed on the theme of “bridges”, then burned and put together to form a memorial. Together with the artist Thomas Jaspert from Bockel, children have created the “oak plank” that is just outside Meier's inn on the roadside. At the 2003 Canal Festival, the task was to carve motifs on the subject of "water" into the oak plank and to paint it.

A small piece of wall reminds of the resistance of the people of Berkenthin against the planned demolition of the Kirchsteig Bridge because of its dilapidated condition. A big bridge solidarity festival was held to reinforce the resistance. This bridge monument was created at this event. Cycle touring and hiking enthusiasts can find out more interesting information on a small commemorative plaque and the numerous opinions and creative depictions in the burnt bricks of the wall.
