Emblematic place related to the War of Independence with the French.
The French Cross or Creu del Francés -in Valencian- was erected in memory of one of the heroes of the War of Independence, Antonio Cherta. At this point a path begins that leads to an elevated area where the castle of Alcala de Xivert is located.
The Cross of the French bears the following inscription: "In this place, Antonio Cherta was killed by the French on August 17, 1810. Rest in peace."

Inscription of the Cross: "In this place Antonio Cherta was killed by the French on August 17, 1810, rest in peace." It can be a starting point for routes through the Sierra de Irta. Easy to reach both by vehicle and on foot. A must-see and passage of hiking routes.
On the same side of the Cross, is the old corral de L'Assagador or de la Cruz.
