The Grand River flows as a wild mountain stream through the Elora Gorge. The 22-meter high rock gorge is not part of the Niagara Escarpment; it lies further west and was formed by glacial meltwater in the limestone. The Grand River's source area is near Georgian Bay, part of Lake Huron; it flows through southwestern Ontario and empties into Lake Erie after 275 kilometers.
