Embark on the difficult Lausfer Lakes Loop Trail, a challenging hike spanning 9.9 miles (15.9 km) with an impressive 5027 feet (1532 metres) of elevation gain. This route takes you through spectacular alpine valleys, past immense peaks, and to the stunning Lausfer lakes, including the largest one, considered a gem of the Stura Valley. Expect to spend around 8 hours and 34 minutes immersed in this rugged mountain landscape, where you can also discover remnants of old military tracks from the Alpine Wall.
To tackle this demanding trail, you will need very good fitness, alpine experience, and sturdy shoes. Some sections feature technical or hazardous terrain, so come prepared with specialist equipment and prior experience. Be ready for significant climbing and crossing several mountain passes, ensuring you are sure-footed throughout your journey.
This loop is nestled within the Parco naturale delle Alpi Marittime, offering a rich natural environment. Beyond the beautiful lakes, keep an eye out for diverse wildlife such as eagles, chamois, and even young ibex roaming the area. The historical military constructions add another layer of interest to this already unique alpine adventure.
