It is not advisable to attempt this trail in wet, snowy, or icy conditions due to these challenging parts. Embark on a difficult hiking adventure with the Trails CAI 425 and 422 loop, a challenging route around Monte Vualt from Dordolla. This 9.4 miles (15.1 km) journey demands good fitness as you tackle a significant 4013 feet (1223 metres) of elevation gain, taking approximately 7 hours and 24 minutes to complete. You will traverse varied terrain, from the narrow streets of Dordolla through dense forests of Scots pine, beech, and spruce, to rocky outcrops and gravelly channels, all while enjoying panoramic views of peaks like Creta Grauzaria and Monte Sernio.
Planning your visit requires preparation for a hard hike that tests your sure-footedness on steep ascents and descents. The trail conveniently starts in the charming village of Dordolla, where you can find parking near the church. Given the demanding nature of the route, ensure you have very good fitness before setting out to fully enjoy the experience.
This loop offers more than just stunning views; it's steeped in history, passing a deep World War I military tunnel and the remains of an old military hospital from 1911. You can also take a well-deserved break at the welcoming Cjasut dal Sior Refuge, managed by the CAI of Moggio, which provides splendid vistas. Reaching the 1752-metre summit of Monte Vualt is a highlight, rewarding you with magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding Carnic Alps and the majestic Dolomite limestones.
