In the heart of Serra da Estrela, Casal do Rei is one of the rare schist villages in the natural park. To reach its river beach, you have to venture down a steep alley and some narrow steps, but the reward is worth it. Among the stone houses, memories of times gone by still linger: an olive press and a watermill. And, if you're lucky, you might come across small herds of goats and sheep, guardians of this mountain retreat.

I'd say it's a close second when it comes to the selection of beautiful waterfalls/pools in the area, but it's still beautiful here... especially the surroundings. Access is fairly easy and ideal even with small children. Plenty of seating is also available.
