Here lime was already burned in the 17th century, which was used as a binder for mortar. As a basic material, the calcareous clay was used, which was abundant in the southern part of the "Tempusbachtales". The loam deposits on the terraces of the Rhine Valley originated during the Ice Age. During this time, the Rhine hardly led water and the permafrost pulverized the calcareous gravel.
