Before reaching the old town via Lange Straße, you cross the now modernly designed Alten Postplatz. At the beginning of Lange Straße, the Fellbacher Tor originally stood; through a passage to the right, you can reach the Zwinger (see station 8). At the junction with Kurze Straße stands the former rectory, the birthplace of the silhouette artist Luise Duttenhofer. The stately building with red exposed timber framing on the right in Kurze Straße housed various city schools for over 200 years.

The most important entrance to the fortified city was once the Fellbacher Tor, also called the Esslinger Tor or Stuttgarter Tor. It stood at the inner city wall, on the city side of the building Lange Str. 61 (see marking in the pavement). In front of the Fellbacher Tor, where the busy "Alte Postplatz" is located today, there used to be the stagecoach station. This is where visitors arrived and goods were transshipped. The tower also served as a prison at times.
