The circular mill in Freistett was originally built in 1865 as a hemp mill, later converted into a grain mill, and rebuilt after a fire in 1883. It developed into one of the largest mills in the Hanau region. Due to structural change, mill operations ceased in 1968. The building now serves as a residential building, while parts of the facility, such as the turbine, are still in use.
