The cathedral dates from its beginnings in 1172, was completed in 1267 and is today the episcopal church of the Archdiocese of Monreale. It is one of the most important buildings in Christianity, as its architectural style combines Norman, Byzantine and Christian building elements in a way that no other Christian building (according to information in an information document) finds. A visit is an absolute must for anyone interested in history and architecture - just amazing.

Built at the time of Norman rule in the late 12th century, the cathedral has an overwhelming interior design. Almost all of the components are covered with mosaics, which are usually designed as pictures and, grouped by location, tell different themes of the Old and New Testaments. Undoubtedly one of the most important buildings of the entire Middle Ages.
The ascent to the roof is definitely worthwhile because of the beautiful view over Palermo and the Conca d'Oro as well as in the cloister of the associated monastery, which can be visited separately (admission).
