The Electoral Saxon half-mile column near Zwönitz is a historical testament to the postal and transport system in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge). It stands on the old post road between Chemnitz and Schwarzenberg, on the current S 270 towards Grünhain.
The original half-mile column was erected in 1724. It bore the serial number 46 and belonged to the Electoral Saxon postal route Chemnitz–Stollberg–Zwönitz–Schwarzenberg–Johanngeorgenstadt.

This half-mile column is a replica of the post-mile column from 1724 that originally stood not far from this point, with row number 46 on the former post road from Chemnitz to Schwarzenberg. The column was erected at the end of the 1990s on behalf of the city of Zwönitz, together with two other copies, a quarter mile stone and a full mile column, and in contrast to the original, which was made of Greifenstein granite, it was made of Elbe sandstone with a base of Lausitz granite.
