Until the fortress was closed, there were 15 larger and smaller buildings that were used for workshops and depots etc. Today, the only surviving building is the powder magazine from 1857. This building, together with the preserved powder tower, housed the fort's powder store.

The gunpowder magazine in Kastellet was built in 1857 after the previous magazine was accidentally blown up by the cannon ship Hekla. Today, the magazine contains a small plaque exhibition about the history of Kastellet as well as a model of the entire fortress as it looked around 1849.
