This burial mound dates from about 1400 BC. Special finds have been made in this burial mound, including gold earrings, a bronze ax and bronze arrowheads. This makes it one of the 'richest' burial mounds in Drenthe. Because of these finds, it is said that this man must have had a unique position, which is why it is also referred to as the 'chieftain of the Sleenerzand'. In later times, from the Middle Ages, this burial mound was also used as a gallows mountain.
